Today was a great market day at the Cape Breton Farmers market! I bought plums, grapes, red peppers, cherry tomatoes, and yellow tomatoes (all from Blue Heron Farm), cheese from Wandering Shepherd, stew meat from Lambscapes, a whole bunch of stewing tomatoes from Hank’s farm and a litre of maple syrup from someone who sells Highland gold syrup there.
By the time I got to the market I still had not had breakfast and the thing that wanted most was chocolate! I saw cupcakes and JustUs! chocolate bars, but settled with some cherry tomatoes and sheep cheese, sigh! But the sweet craving lasted all day.
I came home and heated up leftover chicken soup for lunch.
For dinner I had a dish of baked beans with onion, stew beef, hot pepper, tomato, and spices. Then I set to work on making dessert. First I boiled about 1/2 cup of maple syrup until the top looks quilted and it starts to pull away from the side of the pot, next I poured it onto a sheet of parchment paper with walnuts spread on it. I stirred it quickly while it cooled but maybe for a few seconds too long because it made very crumbly candy, but it was delicious and really helped get rid of the chocolate cravings!
